Afterschool Activities at University Settlement: Re‑Opening Delayed

Fun, Skill-building Programs for Children at Ogden and Orde St. Public Schools

Update: Re‑Opening Delayed

We can’t wait to see you…but just not yet.

We’re listening to parents about their concerns about the opening of school this year. We’ll be watching the situation closely in the coming weeks and will make a decision about reopening in-person Afterschool programs after Thanksgiving. Please keep checking the website for more information.

For more information, contact Emma Lupinacci, Children’s Program Coordinator at emma.lupinacci@universitysettlement.ca or call (416) 598-3444 ext. 229.

Afterschool programming at University Settlement offers social-recreational activities that provide children with opportunities to build skills, confidence and community. Program staff are High Five™ trained, have a high level of knowledge and expertise in positive child development, and have CPR and First Aid certification.

We’ve made a number of changes to our afterschool programs to protect the children in our care and our staff from COVID-19.

New Changes to Our Afterschool Programs

  • Enrolment is restricted to children in Grade 1 through Grade 4 at Ogden and Orde Street public schools.
  • Total enrolment is limited to 16 children.
  • The children from each school will form their own separate cohort of eight.
  • To maintain the cohort, all children are registered for five days a week.
  • All children must wear masks.
  • All children will be screened as soon as they arrive.
  • Handwashing times have been built into the programs.
  • There is a separate entrance for afterschool activities arrival and pickup.

Daily Schedule

Each school day from September through June, our trained staff provide safe walking escorts from Orde Street and Ogden public schools to University Settlement. After screening and handwashing, children receive nutritious snacks before participating in Active Games, and Arts and Crafts.

Active Games

Physical activity is always welcome after a day at school. Fun games, such as What Time is it Mr. Wolf?, Octopus, and Barnyard help kids learn and practice fair play, honesty and teamwork while developing gross and fine motor skills and enhancing hand/eye coordination. Games also promote the development of positive, healthy lifestyles.

Arts and Crafts

Children participate in a variety of arts and crafts activities designed to help them express their creativity, improve their dexterity, and promote problem solving and perseverance.

Registration, Fees, and Subsidies

Registration Open: September 10

Fees: $18 per day (including HST)

Subsidies: To find out more about subsidies, contact Emma Lupinacci, Children’s Program Coordinator at emma.lupinacci@universitysettlement.ca or call (416) 598-3444 ext. 229.
