This year’s Annual Chinese Lunar New Year Event, held on On Saturday, February 4, 2017, celebrated the Year of the Rooster.
Guests were treated to FREE entertainment, including traditional lion dancing, traditional Korean drumming, Seniors’ performances, Kung Fu demonstrations, a visit from the God of Wealth, and much more!

LINC students had a productive fall term this year. The classes started on September 6th, 2016 and will end on December 16th for the holiday break. The new term will resume on January 3rd, 2017 and will run until March 30, 2017.
During this term, in addition to improving their language skills, LINC students learned about Canadian historical and cultural heritage through field trips and participated in national Canadian events, such as Remembrance Day in City Hall, celebration of Thanksgiving and other city events.

LINC classes at the University Settlement are open for the 2016-2017 school year and we have a new addition: we are now offering a bilingual part-time Literacy class in the afternoon from 12:30 to 3:30 PM. This class will have the same curriculum as the morning Literacy class and is open to new students.

LINC students have enjoyed the warm days of late spring and early summer as they completed the first school year term (April 2016- March 2017). LINC will be off for the summer from June 27th to September 6th, 2016. Before the term ended, students participated in various events and field trips in Toronto and enjoyed being new Torontonians. Some of these excursions included seeing the cherry blossoms in High Park, participating in the New Comers Day Celebration at Nathan Phillip Square, taking a tour of Old City Hall, and a picnic on Centre Island.

The application for our annual Investing in our Community Scholarship Award is available now! This scholarship aims to recognize exceptional volunteerism and contribution to helping our communities grow. Candidates who volunteer with University Settlement, live in the Greater Toronto Area, are over the age of 17 and will attend an educational institution or training program in the fall as a domestic student are encouraged to apply.
