Employment Placement Program

Funded by the City of Toronto and the United Way of Toronto, University Settlement’s Employment Placement program is situated at 720 Spadina Avenue. Our team of professionals specializes in employment and training and can help you to in defining a realistic career goal as well as assist you with developing your job readiness. We have everything you need to conduct your job search and build your skill set.

Job Search Facilities

  • 17 computer workstations with free internet access
  • Up to date job posting bulletin board
  • Web based job posting board
  • 2 fax machines
  • Computer training workshops
  • Employment assistance and support
  • Daily newspapers, magazines and school calendars
  • Job search resources and reading materials
  • Videos for employment and training
  • Photocopier for job search purposes
  • 12 computer stations in our workshop lab for interactive training

We will help you:

  • Develop an effective resume and a winning cover letter
  • Understand the local labour market and employ efficient job search techniques
  • Search for and obtain a job
  • Prepare for a successful job interview
  • Improve networking, cold calling, and computer skills

What we need in return is your effort to focus on job search and attend scheduled appointments in our centre. Once you are employed, we still support you for 6 months as well as help you solve any work issues with your employers during that period of time.

  • Office: administrative assistant, receptionist, office clerk / accounting clerk (3-5years work experience)
  • IT: technical support, help desk, computer programmers (3-5years work experience)
  • Health Care: PSW, home support worker, dental assistant, dental receptionist
  • Customer Service Representative: call centre, bank, office, retail, hotel, telecommunication
  • Electrician, plumber
  • Forklift operator, truck driver
  • Building maintenance workers/superintendents
  • Childcare 2orkers
  • Hospitality: counter helper, kitchen helper, cook, waiting staff, hosts/hostesses
  • Retail: sales clerk, cashier, store helper, security officer
  • Garment factory: sewing machine operator, iron presser
  • Factory: production line workers, packers
  • Cleaner, housekeeper
  • General laborers, machine operators and warehouse personnel
  • Construction worker, landscaper, mover
  • Sales and Marketing


  • Ontario Works recipient with the motivation and desire to become independent of social assistance
  • Commitment and willingness to attend training, job search and follow up sessions on a regular basis
