Youth Programs at University Settlement are designed to involve people between the ages of 10 and 25. Activities included are generally oriented towards youth development through recreation, social living and education. Some of our youth volunteers have been recipients of our Investing in Our Neighborhoods scholarship award which helps them with their post-secondary fees. We strive to engage our youth by offering various activities.
If you have any questions about our programs or would like to become involved please contact us.

In partnership with Moorelands, we offer a very special overnight camp experience to those that are eligible. Camp Moorelands is 2 ½ hours north of Toronto and campers are whisked away by bus to the camp and get to enjoy 8 fun filled days away! This camp is for those who are between 8 and 14, and campers must have completed grade 3 in order to register. What’s unique about this camp is that the fee is based on your family income and is subsidized by University Settlement. The focus of this camp is the growth and well-being of young adults.
Camp Moorelands is available to those families who qualify for a subsidy and who live in the City of Toronto. Registration is very limited and is typically on a first come, first served basis.
Kids who play sports at an early age are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes, typically remain at normal weight throughout their childhood and into adulthood and develop habits of physical exercise that are more likely to carry over later in life. Through sports kids are able to learn life skills including time management, understanding the concept of play, teamwork and leadership. Our sports activities for youth aim to foster a safe and inclusive environment for all who participate.
Programs we offer:
FREE Girls basketball for youth ages 13 to 25
FREE Drop in basketball for youth ages 13 to 25
Youth Membership rate for Yoga, Swimming and Fitness Room
Cops and Kids
Every Thursday night at 7pm we host a program called “Cops and Kids”. It’s a free program that gets kids involved with activities such as dodge ball and basketball alongside cops. The goal of this program is to have kids understand the faces behind the titles and aims to develop a positive relationship between police and young adults. Come out and join the 125 kids that are already registered for this program! It’s typically hosted in the Auditorium at our 23 Grange Road location.
If you are a youth and want to get involved then come and see us! It doesn’t matter if you want to come in on a one time basis or if you’re looking to get involved on a long term basis, we want you! We have a volunteer coordinator who will be able to pair you up with a program or activity where you can help. If you need to complete your 40 hours and are a highschool student, this is the perfect place for you.
For volunteers who make an on-going contribution to our volunteer program we offer a chance to apply for a post-secondary scholarship. For more information please take a look at our Volunteer section.
