Our Leadership Team

Patricia Jacobs, Executive Director

Patricia joined University Settlement Executive Director in 2014. A skilled senior executive with more than 30 years’ experience in social services, she has provided leadership to several not-for-profit, charitable organizations dedicated to providing services to vulnerable populations and social justice issues. Patricia received a BA and BSW from York University and an MSW from the University of Toronto. She is an ardent advocate of evidence-based practice and is a Registered Social Worker and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Raymond White, Director of Finance and Administration

Ray brings a wealth of leadership and financial and administration experience to University Settlement gained through a 35+ year career leading similar organizations and agencies. In addition to overseeing human resources, he is also responsible for facility management. Ray serves as Chair of the Board of the East York Foundation and is Chair of the Board of the Leaside Sports Hall of Fame. For 20+ years, Ray was involved in minor hockey as a coach, executive, tournament organizer and hockey school instructor. In 2020, Toronto City Council awarded Ray the Agnes Macphail Award for his outstanding volunteerism, advocacy and contributions to the East York community

Ida Bertolini, Director of Daycare

A graduate of the Institute of Child Study at the University of Toronto, Ida has been the Director of the Day Care since 1986. She remains committed to ensuring that the children enrolled there regard University Settlement’s Day Care as their second home. Ida has been a member of staff for more than 35 years.

Catherine McNeely, Director of Settlement & Social Services

Catherine has 15+ years of progressive leadership in the community- based social service sector including Settlement, Language Training, Employment Services, and Community Development initiatives. She has a passion for community-based work, with a focus on supporting newcomer families, enhancing their connections to their new communities, and recovering their sense of community through economic activity, language acquisition, creative expression and skills development.

Victoria Medeiros, Managing Director, Music and Arts School

Victoria is an experienced arts administrator, and classically trained musician and performer. Prior to becoming Managing Director of the Music & Arts School in 2014, she was a voice instructor at the School. Victoria is a passionate supporter of community music and its ability to inspire, encourage and build potential. She holds a Master of Music in voice performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.

Kate Mossop, Director of Recreation & Facilities Management

Kate brings a breadth of community recreation, program development, and grassroot civic engagement to her role. With her experience building intergenerational partnerships, collaborations with Indigenous people, and supporting unique communities, she looks forward to bringing diverse groups together to bring exciting programs to life, thus enhancing both individual lived experiences and building resilient communities. Kate graduated from York University’s Faculty of Education with a Master’s in Leadership and Community Engagement and holds a BA in Gerontology. Life is complete with action and adventure is part of her mantra. In her downtime, Kate can be found in the swimming pool, baking cupcakes, and travelling with friends and family.

Janet Mowat, Managing Director, External Relations & Development

Janet is a seasoned marketing, communications and fundraising professional with a strong track record in creating engaging public awareness campaigns and partnerships that broaden the donor base and build a culture of philanthropy. Her portfolio includes annual giving campaigns, major gifts, sponsorship, donor stewardship and fundraising event coordination as well as member communications, public relations activities, and Board of Directors support.

Oladipupo Sokunbi, IT Manager

Oladipupo is an experienced and certified IT Professional, Helpdesk specialist and IT Training consultant with over 20 years’ experience in the IT industry. Driven by service excellence, he takes pride in ensuring outstanding service delivery whenever possible. As the IT Manager his roles include IT administration, Helpdesk Support, Project management and IT policy implementation. In addition to his primary job function, Oladipupo has been recognized by his colleagues for his extraordinary commitment to his work.

Beata Golec (CPA, CGA), Controller

Beata’s experience in financial management extends across the corporate and non-profit sectors. She has been responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including day-to-day operations and setting up processes and procedures. Prior to joining University Settlement, Beata was Finance Manager at Habitat for Humanity, Accountant at Shepherd’s Care Foundation, and Controller for an international wine company headquartered in Italy. She is a Board Member and Co-Treasurer of the Glenview Senior Public School Council.
