We’ve got you covered! Every week, we post FREE activity ideas you can do with your family. They are specially designed to promote being outside, so you can enjoy some family time in your neighbourhood on the weekends in a safe, socially distant way!
We are living through history in the making, so why not capture it?
Decorate a box/container and include the date of when you will open it. Next, gather anything you want to remember about this time. They can be quotes, pictures, small items, etc., and place them into the box.
Hide your time capsule somewhere (just don’t forget where!) and set a reminder for a future date to open it!
Send a picture of your time capsule to emma.lupinacci@univeristysettlement.ca to be featured on our website!
Did you know we can go stargazing from the comfort of your home? Let’s Do it!
Grab a kitchen colander (or 2) and a flashlight. Lie down in a dark room and shine the flashlight through the colander onto the ceiling – instant starry night! Use your imagination to see what you find in the stars.
It is more important than ever to spread kindness, and one of the best ways to do that is to let our friends and family know how much we appreciate them.
Create a coupon book with different activities, quotes and drawings that spread kindness. This can be a coupon to help your parents with a chore, or a drawing of someone you really admire or your favourite inspirational quote.
Give them out to friends and family to redeem whenever they need a pick me up!
Send a picture of your kindness coupons to emma.lupinacci@universitysettlement.ca for a chance to be featured on our website!
Time to be a nature detective – you can try this out from your window, balcony, backyard, or nature pocket near you!
See if you can find the things listed here:
Looking at the card above, can you find a whole row, or a diagonal? Can you get an ‘L’ or an ‘X’? What about a full card!?
Here’s a tip: try going back to the same spot over a few days to see if you can get them all!
Postcard stories are stories or poems that are 100 words or less. They are short and sweet, just like a real postcard.
Normally, you might send a postcard to a friend or a family member when you are travelling, or far from home. But since we aren’t able to travel right now, why not make a postcard from home.
To write a postcard story, think of a memory. It can be whatever you want, maybe it’s from a trip to a special place, or a fun day from this past summer. Write a postcard (a story or poem) about that memory. You can decorate your postcard too!
Take a picture of your postcard and send it to emma.lupinacci@universitysettlement.ca for a chance to be featured on our website. We can’t wait to read your stories!
Have you ever looked at big, fluffy clouds on a sunny day? That’s called cloud watching! Sometimes, if you look hard enough, you can see shapes or animals! Let’s do it!
Find a safe spot to lay down where you can see the clouds (this can be in the park or on your balcony). Be sure to do this on a day where there are clouds in the sky! As you’re watching the clouds, use your imagination: what do you see? When you are finished, draw what you saw in the clouds.
Email them to emma.lupinacci@universitysettlement.ca to be featured on our website!
Go on a walk with your family. Take a photo of everything on the list below:
Send your photos to emma.lupinacci@universitysettlement.ca for a chance to be featured on our website! We can’t wait to see your photos.
An anywhere artist is someone who uses materials from the world around them to create art. For our self-portraits, we are going to be using materials from nature!
Go to a park with your family, and while you’re there, look for materials you can use to make a self-portrait. Maybe you want to use leaves to make your hair, or rocks for your eyes, you can use anything! Just make sure all your materials are safe to pick-up and always wash your hands afterwards!
When you have found all your materials, it’s time to create your self-portrait!
Take a picture of your work and send it to us at emma.lupinacci@universitysettlement.ca for a chance to be featured on our website! We can’t wait to see all our Anywhere Artists in action!
