Children never cease to astound me with their inquisitive minds, endless energy, and spirit. They have such tremendous potential if we can just give them a chance.
At University Settlement, we offer children in the downtown wonderful opportunities that help them build valuable life skills through our Children’s Programs. The last two years have been challenging for all of us, because of the pandemic, but it’s been especially difficult for the approximately 35% percent of children we serve who are from low-income families.
For Carol (13) and her family, University Settlement has become like a second home. Thanks to our subsidy program, Carol and her brothers Ricky (8) and Ryan (6) have participated in many programs over the past 6 years, including Music, Afterschool, Swimming, Holiday Parties, our Chinese New Year celebration, and the Grange Festival.
Carol is an avid swimmer. She began taking swimming lessons at University Settlement in grade 2 and has progressed through our swimming programs, recently finishing Red Cross level 10 and Bronze Star. Carol is planning to take more swimming programs and hopes to work at our community centre as a lifeguard in the future.
It’s not only the children who benefit from University Settlement children’s programs. Seeing their children so happy has a significant impact on their parents’ lives, too. With your help, we can reach more families who really need the enriching, supportive programs we offer for children at University Settlement.
Please help us continue to make a positive difference in children’s lives and generously donate today. On behalf of University Settlement, I thank you and wish you and yours a joyous Holiday Season.
