Biography
Frankie Wong is an accomplished musician and conductor with a robust background in both piano performance and orchestral conducting. He graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music with First Class Honors, specializing in Music Education and Piano Performance. Recognized for his academic excellence, Frankie was awarded a Government Funding Scholarship to pursue his degree and was selected as the salutatorian during his graduation.
Frankie’s piano journey began at the age of seven, and he continued to develop his skills under the guidance of Dr. Kawai Chan during his university years. His piano studies laid a strong foundation for his musical growth, allowing him to excel in both performance and teaching. Alongside piano, Frankie pursued his passion for conducting, studying professional orchestral conducting under Mr. Ho Man Choi, former resident conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He later moved to Toronto, where he actively participates in choral conducting masterclasses at the University of Toronto under the guidance of Dr. Jamie Hillman, Director of Choral Studies at the University of Toronto.
In 2022, Frankie served as the choral conducting section leader for the Baptist University Choir, leading nearly 200 choral singers and honing his leadership and conducting skills.
In 2024, he was selected as an apprenticeship conductor with Orchestra Toronto, where he led over 130 musicians under the guidance of Mr. Michael Newnham.
With over five years of teaching experience, Frankie has instructed a wide range of students, from preschoolers to adults, with many achieving success in competitions and exams, based on his engaging and interactive teaching methods. Frankie is currently a music teacher at one of the top 20 ranked boarding private schools in the world, where he contributes to the development of the next generation of musicians.
Beyond his academic achievements, Frankie has demonstrated his versatility and dedication through performances in both piano and conducting concerts. His notable appearances include the “EnCello Year-End Concert,” “Tone Labs Music – The Gleams Christmas Concert,” and “Hong Kong Baptist University Colla Voce,” showcasing his commitment to artistic excellence. He holds a Distinction in Grade 8 Piano from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), the ATCL Diploma in Piano Performance from Trinity College London, and a Grade 8 Theory qualification from ABRSM.
