We employ approximately 140 full- and part-time staff who are dedicated to serving people from diverse communities and to strengthening the reputation of University Settlement as a leading community-based agency.

Our Leadership Team

Wendy Sung-Aad (Executive Director)

Wendy Sung-Aad is a strategic leader with more than two decades of experience advancing social impact, and bridging community needs through visionary leadership, transformative partnerships, mentorship, and organizational excellence. Known for her strong commitment to equity and positive social change, Wendy leads with integrity and foresight, fostering collaboration and delivering meaningful outcomes for diverse communities.

Wendy’s connection to University Settlement is deeply personal. Having grown up in the neighbourhood while her immigrant parents worked long hours nearby, she participated in its music and sports programs as a young child. This lived experience continues to inspire her commitment to strengthening our community and building a vibrant future for the next generation.

Beata Golec (CPA, CGA) (Director, Finance)

Beata’s experience in financial management extends across the corporate and non-profit sectors. She has been responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including day-to-day operations and setting up processes and procedures. Prior to joining University Settlement, Beata was Finance Manager at Habitat for Humanity, Accountant at Shepherd’s Care Foundation, and Controller for an international wine company headquartered in Italy. She is a Board Member and Co-Treasurer of the Glenview Senior Public School Council.

Candace Whynot (Managing Director, Day Care)

Candace is a graduate of George Brown College, where she completed both the Early Childhood Educator Program and the Child Care Management Program.

She has been a dedicated member of University Settlement’s staff for over 20 years working with all age groups within daycare and now as the Managing Director.

Candace is committed to creating a warm, inclusive, and welcoming environment at the daycare, ensuring that all families feel comfortable and secure when entrusting their children to our care.

Victoria Medeiros (Managing Director, Music and Arts School)

Victoria is an experienced arts administrator, and classically trained musician and performer. Prior to becoming Managing Director of the Music & Arts School in 2014, she was a voice instructor at the School. Victoria is a passionate supporter of community music and its ability to inspire, encourage and build potential. She holds a Master of Music in voice performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.

Felix Flores (Acting Managing Director, Music and Arts School)

Felix is an experienced arts administrator and classically trained violinist based in Toronto. Before becoming Acting Managing Director of University Settlement’s Music & Arts School, he shared his passion for music as a violin and viola teacher, chamber music coach, and program assistant, helping to coordinate the school’s major events. A dedicated advocate for community music, Felix believes in its power to inspire, nurture, and create meaningful opportunities that make the arts accessible to all.

In his spare time, Felix collaborates widely across the live entertainment industry and contributes to numerous projects supported by the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, and FACTOR. He is also an active member of El Ceibo, an ensemble dedicated to Argentinian folk music. The group has been featured by the Toronto International Jazz Festival, CBC Radio 1, and Jazz FM, and has performed at major venues including the Living Arts Centre.

Felix will cover Victoria Medeiros’ latest leave of absence from May 2025 to October 2026.

Arunthathy Ratnasingham (Senior Director, Language, Settlement and Social Services)

Arunthathy brings a wealth of experience in policy development, systems implementation, research, and advocacy. She is committed to raising awareness about ethnic minorities, promoting diversity, equity, reconciliation, and tolerance. She is a skilled senior executive with more than 20 years’ experience anticipating social trends; managing growth and change through creativity, innovation, and vision; implementing internal controls to ensure adherence to compliance; and minimizing organizational risk. She has advised governments, UN agencies, ICRC and national societies on education, sustainable development, human rights, and international humanitarian law. She is a trained public opinion researcher and was a member of the World Association for Public Opinion Research. She holds a Bachelor’s and a PGD in Applied Sociology and possesses multilingual language abilities. In her down time, Arunthathy is an avid reader, gardener, traveler, and a passionate cook.

Priyanka Bakhshi (Manager, Development and Communications)

Priyanka Bakhshi has been part of the non-profit sector for over 15 years, guided by a deep commitment to community impact and meaningful engagement. She holds a PhD and an MBA with dual specializations in Marketing and Human Resource Management.

In her role, Priyanka focuses on building and nurturing relationships that support the organization’s mission. She leads the development of marketing, communications, and fundraising initiatives, and works closely with external partners to strengthen funding and revenue opportunities.

Known for her thoughtful approach to advocacy, strategy, and storytelling, Priyanka is passionate about creating connections that matter. At University Settlement, she looks forward to expanding the donor community and fostering a stronger culture of giving—one rooted in shared purpose and lasting impact.

Oladipupo Sokunbi (Manager, IT and Facilities)

Oladipupo Sokunbi is an experienced IT and Operations leader with over 20 years in the technology industry.

He oversees Information Technology, Facilities, and Security functions, ensuring reliable systems, safe and well-managed environments, and seamless operational support across the organization.

Driven by a commitment to service excellence, he leads the delivery of IT infrastructure, user support, business systems, and network operations, while also managing facilities coordination, maintenance oversight, and security systems including access control and CCTV.

His role focuses on strengthening operational efficiency, improving processes, and ensuring compliance, all in support of staff productivity and high-quality service delivery to the community.

Oladipupo is recognized for his hands-on leadership, problem-solving approach, and dedication to maintaining stable, secure, and effective operational environments.

Oswaldo Sosa (Director, HR & Community Programming)

Oswaldo has over 18 years of experience as a Human Resources Professional with global companies. He has been a strategic leader with multicultural experiences that have helped build positive workplace culture, organization transformation, and change management. He is passionate to help others and become a trusted advisor, with genuine curiosity, the highest standards, and a strong desire to continuously learn and grow. He holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from York University, also has a Specialization in Information Systems Management, and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations.

In his spare time, he likes to build airplane models, read a good book or watch Football or Baseball, and soon, some Hockey games.

Dora Sarmiento Espinosa (Manager, Accounting & Administration)

Dora Sarmiento Espinosa, has a proven track record of growth within the organization, Dora’s journey is a testament to her dedication and expertise. From her early roles, she has risen to a crucial position, ensuring financial integrity and operational excellence. Dora’s commitment to her work and collaborative spirit inspires colleagues and contributes to the organization’s success, embodying University Settlement’s values.
