Dismissal Policy

University Settlement Community Centre Children’s Programs has a Code of Conduct and expectations that all participants, families, volunteers and staff are expected to follow. We reserve the right to dismiss a child who, in their opinion, is a hazard to the safety or rights of others, or who appears to have rejected the reasonable expectations of the program as set by the Code of Conduct. Refunds or credits are not available if a child is dismissed from the program.

Toilet Training Policy

We require all children attending to be toilet trained. This means that children should be able to use the toilet independently, including pulling down and up their pants, wiping themselves, and washing their hands. We have this requirement to ensure the comfort, safety, and hygiene of all campers and to provide an optimal camp experience for everyone. Toilet training helps promote independence and allows children to participate fully in all camp activities without interruptions.

If your child is currently in the process of toilet training or has special circumstances, please let us know in advance of enrollment so that we can discuss possible accommodations or alternative arrangements. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance may be available for children aged 18 years and younger, whose families qualify for support. Eligibility is based on the total household income, and the number of people in the family. A copy of your latest Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is required to process your eligibility. Subsidies are available on a first come, first-serve basis. There is a limit to our subsidy funding, therefore, the subsidy is not guaranteed. Contact the Children’s Program Coordinator at kidsprograms@universitysettlement.ca to determine eligibility BEFORE enrolling in the program.

Sign Out Policy

Authorized pick-ups must present valid current forms of ID upon pick-up. Kids 12 and up with documented parental and guardian consent (contact Children Programs Coordinator) are allowed to sign in and out of the program.

Annual Agency Membership

Annual Agency Membership is required for all families participating in programs/activities at University Settlement (this includes one adult and up to 5 children; if your spouse is interested in registering in programs for themselves, they will need to sign up for their own membership).

A Letter of Appreciation from Sasha

[Sasha is the mother of Maiia and Liia, attendees of our Afterschool Program]

I want to thank University Settlement community center, particularly its Afterschool Program.

As newcomers to the area, my daughters barely spoke English when they first joined the program. However, within just a few months, they began to blossom with confidence. Each day, they forged new friendships, made connections, and gained invaluable experiences.

The Afterschool Program plays an important role in fostering a strong sense of community among children in our bustling downtown area. It ensures that they don’t lose touch with the joys of childhood.

I also want to commend the dedication and professionalism of the staff. They offer unwavering support and create a safe, friendly environment where all children can flourish and learn.

The inclusion of the swimming program is a wonderful addition, providing my daughters with essential skills that will positively impact their lives.

As a working mother, knowing that my girls are safe and engaged in learning, communication, and relationship-building after school is paramount to me.

I consider us incredibly fortunate to have the Afterschool Program in our neighborhood. It has become an integral part of our family’s journey, aiding my children in adapting to a new country and community with ease.

– Sasha
