Ying Qi

Ying Qi is a Piano Teacher at University Settlement’s Music & Arts School. Ms. Ying Qi began her piano studies at the age of five years old. Since her youth, Ying has received many first and second place awards from municipal and provincial piano competitions in China. In 2004, she won the top award in piano category at China National Music Competition.

Biography

Ms. Ying Qi began her piano studies at the age of five years old. Since her youth, Ying has received many first and second place awards from municipal and provincial piano competitions in China. In 2004, she won the top award in piano category at China National Music Competition.

In 2011, Ying completed her Master of Music degree in piano performance at the University of Saskatchewan, where she studied with Canadian pianist Kathleen Solose. She presented several successful solo recitals at the University of Saskatchewan, including two demanding piano recitals, as well as a guest recital she was invited to perform by the University’s Department of Music. Ying also performed as a soloist in the Fine Arts Lecture Series, Music Graduate Student showcase.

Prior to relocating to Toronto, Ying was a piano instructor for the University of Saskatchewan’s Community Music Education Program. As such, Ying is comfortable and experienced teaching students of all ages and all levels using a variety of instructional methods. Her students routinely received awards and scholarships at the Saskatoon Music Festival. Several achieved Gold Medal Awards and First Class Honors with Distinction in their annual Royal Conservatory of Music piano examinations.

In addition to teaching piano, Ms. Ying Qi is also a collaborative pianist having accompanied university level music recitals, masterclasses performances, auditions, and festival performances, as well as public school choral concerts and chamber music concerts in Saskatoon. Through her collaborative work, Ying was honoured to perform with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra at the symphony concerts.
