Awards and Scholarships

You can create an award based on selection criteria that you decide. Awards are based on multiple criteria, e.g. musical excellence and financial need, or musical excellence and community involvement. Scholarships are based primarily on musical excellence.

Multi-year Award

Establish a named award with selection criteria that you decide for a specific time period with a minimum gift of $10,000.

Endowed Named Awards and Scholarships

An endowment supports an award or scholarship in perpetuity. Gifts are invested and earnings create a revenue stream to support students long after the initial donation is made. An Endowed Award or Scholarship requires a minimum gift of $50,000.

If you are interested in establishing an Award or Scholarship, please email info@universitysettlement.ca.

Matching Gifts

Find out if your employer will match your donation. If so, your donation may be able to be doubled.

In-Kind Donations

Enrich children’s programming or help University Settlement deliver our mission by donating equipment.

Before accepting a gift-in-kind, we will review the gift to determine if it meets University Settlement’s needs. We may decline a gift that is not in line with our goals or that involves special maintenance or conditions that we would be unable to satisfy.

Canada Revenue Agency regulates the receiving and receipting of gifts-in-kind. The donor will be asked to determine the fair market value at the time of the gift and to provide University Settlement with documentation such as receipts, invoices or third party appraisals of the item donated.

To discuss a gift in-kind, please email info@universitysettlement.ca.

Gifts of Securities

The gift of publicly traded securities is an impactful way to support University Settlement and receive favourable tax credits at the same time.

Planned Giving

Leaving a legacy that will benefit future generations, can help you achieve your philanthropic and financial goals, and lower your personal income and estate taxes. Consider leaving a gift to University Settlement in your will or an asset such as life insurance.

Bequests

When making or revising your will, consider how a bequest can provide a lasting legacy of support for University Settlement.

Gifts of Life Insurance

Life insurance is an economical way to give a larger and more lasting gift to University Settlement than might otherwise be possible without drawing on your assets now or depleting your estate. If structured correctly, your gift will not be included in the value of your estate and you will therefore avoid probate fees.

Gifts of Shares

There is a real advantage to making a bequest of shares to University Settlement. Your estate receives a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the shares (at the time they are received) and your estate is not required to declare any resulting capital gains on income.

To discuss a planned gift, please email info@universitysettlement.ca.
