Biography
Chia-An (Victor) Tung, originally from Taiwan, has over 20 years of experience teaching piano. He holds dual Master’s degrees: a Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Sacred Music from Emmanuel College, University of Toronto. Currently, Victor is pursuing a Doctoral degree in Ministry at Emmanuel College. As an ethnomusicologist, he engages actively with diverse scholarly music communities at the postgraduate level. He has presented papers at international conferences across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
In 2024, Victor was honoured with the Pastoral Study Project (PSP) Award from the Louisville Institute, recognizing his academic work. His pedagogical achievements as a music teacher, guiding both youth and adults, complement his academic endeavors. As a professional member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA), several of his students have been invited to perform at ORMTA recitals and have received international awards for their outstanding performances. Additionally, Victor’s piano students have achieved high marks in Royal Conservatory (RCM) examinations and have received the Canadian Composer Scholarship from ORMTA.
Victor divides his time between teaching and his church music ministry, where he serves as the choir director for the Chinese diaspora community in the Greater Toronto Area. He is also a bass singer with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
