Biography
Violinist Yoona began playing the violin at the age of 5 and gave her first concerto performance with Cheong-Ju Symphony orchestra at the age of 11 and the concert was broadcasted nationwide in South Korea.
She also won a grand prize at the Dong Yang IlBo, and was chosen as a soloist to perform in Osaka and concert tour in Russia playing Bach double concerto when she was 12 years old. After immigrating to Vancouver, she attended Vancouver Academy of Music where she received scholarships.
She won first places at Kiwanis, Burnaby Clef Competition, and Coquitlam Music Competition, and was awarded first prize at the British Columbia Provincial competition. After moving to Toronto, she studied at Glenn Gould and was awarded 3rd at the Ontario provincial competition and CMC national Competition.
While pursuing her studies at prestigious Jacobs School of Music Indiana University, she was awarded runner-up at the concerto competition and received good reviews from her fellow colleagues and teachers. The following year she won first place at the Indianapolis Musicale Competition and was also a finalist of TD scholarship competition and was voted for the audience award. While she continued her studies at Dresden musikhoschule and Hochscule für Musik und Tanz Köln, she won first prize at Citta Barletta International Competition, and orchestra tutti contract positions at Staatskapelle Halle Orchester, Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen and Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmionie. She also served as a violinist at Seoul Philharmonic, symphony S.O.N.G and KT Symphony Orchestra.
She has performed in many prestigious venues such as Carnegie hall, Arnoff Centre for the arts, Konzerthaus Berlin, and participated in Music festivals such as Schleswig Holstein Music festival, Aspen Music festival, Moritzburg Chamber academy, Tanglewood Institute, and Mozarteum summer academy with Igor Ozim. In Toronto, where she has recently relocated, she enjoys teaching privately and performing in various concerts.
